About this place
In the residential neighborhood of Minami-Nagasaki, the showcase and menu at Priyatna immediately draw the eye to a house favorite: pumpkin pudding. Crafted using Hokkaido chestnut kabocha squash, the pudding offers the vegetable's innate, hearty flavor alongside a tender resilience and rustic smoothness on the palate. Its sweetness is gently restrained, leaving a composed, mature finish when enjoyed together with the accompanying whipped cream and bittersweet caramel.
The selection of baked sweets is equally thoughtful. Options include flourless unbaked-style chocolate cake baked with 2 varieties of French chocolate, and a dense baked cheesecake made with Kiri cream cheese cooked low and slow for 3 hours. A seasonal daily cake rotates onto the lineup as well, giving returning visitors something fresh to discover throughout the year.
To accompany the confections, the café prepares coffee carefully poured by the cup, starting with a mellow house blend combining Colombia Supremo and Mocha beans. The tea selection is just as broad, ranging from Russian tea served by the pot alongside rose petal jam to herbal infusions and stem hojicha from Kyoto's Ippodo, letting you pick a brew suited to the mood of the moment.
At lunchtime, Priyatna also serves savory light fare, including toasted hot sandwiches stuffed with fillings and a tomato cream curry accompanied by a mini salad. Adorned with paintings by the owner, the quiet dining room is an easy place to read alone or settle into your own thoughts. Note that payments are accepted in cash only, so it is wise to carry yen coins and notes when visiting.
